St Martin De Porres
Today is the beloved feast day of St. Martin De Porres, who was a man of little self-desire and only wanted what was best for other people. Under here I wrote little bit about him!
St Martin De Porres, Patron Saint of social justice and mixed-race people, descent from his free-indigenous mother and Spanish nobleman father, was born on December 9, 1519. At the time, mixed-race people were looked down on and had little privilege, certainly unfair for Martin’s family. I’m sure the racism would’ve been worse in that era but it didn’t seem to bother him too much as he grew in generosity, thoughtfulness and faith. He began to practice spiritual and religious prayers at the early age of 10 which stood with him all the way until his deathbed. Yet, when he started, his fame grew as it was quite uncommon for a child to be so involved in religious life. This later got him an apprenticeship as a barber. A barber in the 15th century was not only a hair stylist but also a medical pharmacy and wound dresser. To his surprise, Martin was skilled and praised for his ability to heal even the scariest infections which earned him several demanded sessions and love from the people of Peru.
It is of course known that St. Martin De Porres was a selfless man ready to offer the pitied people on streets his medical experience and justice. Everybody appreciated his presence as he would always be kind, accepting & loving to anybody of race.
